After a brief stop to pick up some fresh-squeezed orange juice and a pastry, I made my way to the Pantheon.
Yet another grand building with huge pieces of artwork (many of which are religious in nature) and even a crypt.
What a view when you first enter.
(The Martyr of St. Dennis -- rather gruesome)
(Attila and his army march on Paris)
Seems very strange to me that the panels of this piece featuring different stages of Joan of Arc's life were actually chronologically right to left.
(National Convention)
(National Convention, rear angle)
(Monument to Unknown Soldiers)
(The Coronation of Charlemagne)
(St. Genevieve, on her deathbed)
Next up was making my way down into the crypt area, where they have a few notables laid to rest.
(Voltaire) (Rousseau)
(Alexander Dumas, Victor Hugo, and Emile Zola)
It was time to make my way back to the hotel for a brief rest before dinner and the marathon. But, en route, I made sure to go through the nearby Jardin du Luxembourg.
Yet another version of the Statue of Liberty. And it's not the last one that I will wind up seeing on this trip.
The exit was a short ways away and only a few blocks further to get to my hotel. Marathon Pour Tous, here I come!
